Judy Brayden graduated in 1972 with a double major in printmaking and painting from the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. During that time she studied under Sam Black, Bob Steele and Gordon Smith.
Judy then turned her creative energy to the public school system in B.C. Here she taught both as a specialist and as a generalist in both elementary and secondary schools. Her specialties were art, global education, gifted education, special education, and professional development.
Retiring from the classroom in 2004, she returned to Malaspina University College to complete her diploma in interior design. Graduating in 2005, she received the Governor General’s Bronze Medal for academic achievement.
In 2003 she established her generalist design company, All Facets of Design, and in 2005 was accepted as an active member in the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has served as its Nanaimo chapter president from 2006 to the present day.
As her company name implies, Judy sees design (art) as multi-faceted and interdisciplinary. Her work varies from architectural detailing and custom furniture design, to painting and graphics work. Several of her portraits hang in British Columbia homes and she has created postcards and stationary for Sant’ Antonio, a villa in Tuscany. In 2007 she participated in Seven Perceptions, a group show at the Old Schoolhouse Gallery in Qualicum, as well as the 2007 edition of Bloomin’ Art, a semi-annual, abstract show in which paintings are interpreted by floral artists in ichibana arrangements.
Judy believes that the responsibility to think and act creatively rests with each of us. All of her work reflects her ability to think critically; creatively analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating for positive change in the world around her |
