Now that I live on one of the most beautiful parts of the BC coast overlooking the north end of Georgia Strait, the Discovery Islands, and Coastal Mountains, finding something to paint is not a problem.
My challenge is to capture those fleeting changes in mood and colour caused by the everchanging atmospheric conditions.
I work from studies and the quick sketches I make as something catches my eye when I travel the coast highway or in still moments just gazing at the scene. Interpreting those glimpses into paint on canvas is the real joy.
We moved to Quadra Island as permanent residents 5 years ago, from Ontario. Originally from England I immigrated to Canada in 1982, and took the chance to study graphic deign and illustration at Concordia University, Montreal. I have drawn and painted all my life, and was happy to put in even more time painting when I stopped working.
I joined the FCA and became an Active Member two years ago, and have had work accepted in FCA juried shows in Comox and Vancouver, had group shows at the Tidemark Theatre Gallery, Campbell River, the Pearl Ellis Gallery, Comox, and other mixed shows, plus a solo show and group shows in Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario.
