Bernice Sutton

Bernice moved to Duncan in 1993, from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Moving from the prairie fields and barns of Manitoba, to the mountains and sea of Vancouver Island, takes a leap of faith for an artist's interpretation of subject matter.

Working at outdoor venues "en plein air" with oil and acrylic medium has brought Telegraph Cove, Quadra Island and Yellow Point Lodge landscapes into focus. A trip to Mount Washington also was a grandeur experience captured with watercolor.

Working in all mediums, brings a texture to many paintings, and allows the artist the choice of expression.

Developing new challenges along the way, and enhanced by finding new friendship and exchange of ideas have made a great "island experience".

As a portrait artist, Bernice has found her niche in bringing to life, the pastel or acrylic paintings of animals and people.

Teaching this particular art form (portraiture) as well as basic watercolor etc. for Eldercollege, allows other students to begin their art career and enjoy the process.
