Born in Calgary, Alberta, Barb has been drawing and painting since childhood. She was always attracted to the mountains, so after high school moved on to Lake Louise. Winters were spent working at the ski area, and during the summer months she worked for Parks Canada at Yoho National Park. There were many incredible places visited during those years, from mountain peaks to meadows where yellow columbines, calypso orchids and ladyslippers grew. The Coast Mountains also inspired Barb, and she spent a few years living in Whistler. Now living near Nanaimo, on Vancouver island, she is soaking up the West Coast experience.
"I like to try to remember and share my encounters with some of these wild and sublime places on canvas or paper, in watercolour or acrylic. My formal training was at University of Victoria and David Thompson University Centre in Nelson, B.C. The workshops I've taken from the FCA and other artists have been very valuable experiences for me. My paintings are in private collections in Canada, and I am currently represented by the Shorewinds Gallery in Tofino, B.C"
