Nanaimo Chapter - Federation of Canadian Artists

Seventy five paintings were submitted for consideration by Jurors Sherry Mitchell, SFCA, Pat Holland, SFCA and Kathy Bedard, AFCA. Twenty seven paintings were chosen for the Show: all of these are Jurors Choice. The number of Jurors Choice paintings selected required more space than we had originally contracted for the show, so the NAG graciously extended the amount of wall space available to us, which means the Show takes up almost the entire gallery. In addition to the Jurors Choice paintings that were hung , there were 15 paintings designated as Chapter Choice.

From the 27 Jurors Choice paintings, 7 Awards were chosen.

The Opening was a quite well attended with about 70 people present, including the President of the NAG Society , and the new Gallery Manager, Ed Poli, and Coordinator(s) of Volunteers, Anne Jones and Gerda Hofman.

Many thanks to all those NFCA members whose hard work resulted in another beautiful Show.

For those members who do not know this, the procedure for mounting an FCA Juried Show is as follows:

Jurors Choice paintings are hung
Senior Signature members’paintings are hung, if any have been submitted to the Show
If there are not sufficient of the above two categories to mount a Show in the space available, then the jurors may re-look at the Chapter Choice paintings to determine if some should be selected for hanging .

The gallery staff (volunteers) are there to ensure that the gallery and the NFCA Show is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday each week, and they handle any sales, with payment to the artists to be made within 30 days of the show closing on May 28, 2008. The commission to the gallery is 40% on all sales.
