2018 Nanaimo Fine Art Show Call for Submissions

Congratulations to the artists that have been successfully juried into the 2018 Nanaimo Fine Art Show. You should have received an email from Vancouver with your results and an email from Nanaimo with the info package and waiver. If you need the info again click on the links below:

The Nanaimo Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is pleased to present the 3rd annual Nanaimo Fine Art Show at the Vancouver Island Conference Center. This juried show celebrates the vitality and quality of visual art in our community and aims to become a premier annual event offering excellent exposure for all forms of accepted FCA media.

The Nanaimo Fine Art Show runs from November 1st to 4th, 2018, exhibiting in the fabulous Dodd Narrows Full Room of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. An Opening Gala and Award Ceremony, where the cash prize awards will be presented, will be held on Thursday night November 1st at 7 PM. This event is by invitation only.

The jurors will select a First-place prize, with an award of $1000; a Second-place prize, awarded $750, and a Third-place prize awarded $500. The jurors will also select non-cash awards for Honorable Mentions. Finally, a People’s Choice Award will be conferred upon the show closing.

This year’s jurors are Donna Baspaly, SFCA, Sherry Mitchell, SFCA, and Eunmi Conacher, AFCA. The show includes a separate Signature Member showcase for the jurors and qualified local Chapter Members. A "Meet The Artist Night" will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, from 7-9 PM, and this event will include a silent auction. Paintings gaining acceptance by jurors must be dropped off at the venue on November 1st between 8 AM - 12 noon. The exhibition will accept entries from all Federation chapters on Vancouver Island and surrounding islands.

Entry Guidelines

To enter this exhibition, you must be an Active member, AFCA, or SFCA member in good standing with the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver and be in good standing with one of the following FCA Chapters: Nanaimo, Arrowsmith, or Victoria.

Refer to the renewal links at the end of this document to renew your membership. Artists who are successful at jury, but have not renewed their memberships will be removed from the exhibition.

Once a piece has been accepted into the juried show, it cannot be sold and/or withdrawn before the show.

Entry sizes are restricted to 48 x 48 inches. Height can be greater than 36 inches, but please remember that paintings are being displayed on easels.

Chapter Show Submissions are subject to general Federation of Canadian Artists Submission Requirements, found in the policy manual.

After jurying, submissions will fall into one of three categories:

  1. Qualifying and count towards Signature Status points with the FCA

  2. Non-Qualifying - artworks that are non-qualifying have not scored high enough to be eligible for points towards your Signature Status but may still display as part of this Chapter exhibition. This category for display is available for Nanaimo FCA Members only.

  3. Non-qualifying artworks that are declined for display.

Artists are encouraged to submit their most recent artwork. You may submit artworks that have been previously submitted or accepted to the Federation Gallery in Vancouver, or any FCA Chapter show except Nanaimo.

Chapter Show Submissions are subject to general Federation of Canadian Artists Submission Requirements, found in the FCA policy manual. All works submitted must be for sale. If a work is purchased by someone during the show that is unable to pickup after the show. Pieces will be taken down and given to buyers during the show.

Artists entering the show agree that photographs of their paintings can be used for future advertisement of this show by the Nanaimo Chapter on website, print material and social media.

Entry Fees (up to 3 entries)

Entry Rates

  • $25.00 CAN for the first entry.

  • $10.00 CAN per entry, up to two entries thereafter.

Hanging Fees for accepted pieces:

  • $10.00 CAN per accepted entry to be paid after pieces have been accepted into the show. Paid by credit card through a Square invoice sent to you from the Nanaimo FCA Treasurer to the email used during registration. Expect invoices mid-late September.

Important Dates in 2018

Submissions:

  • May 31st - Submission Opens

  • August 31st - Submission closes at midnight.

Delivery:

  • Thursday, November 1st, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Noon) - Drop off at Dodds Narrows Room, at the Vancouver Island Conference Center (ground floor). All work must be hand delivered; shipped deliveries are not permissible.

Events and Show Times:

  • Thursday, November 1st Gala reception by invitation only 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a sneak preview for prior buyers and sponsors starting at 6:00 PM

  • Saturday, November 3rd, Show hours are 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

  • Sunday, November 4th, Show hours are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Silent auction starts Nov. 3rd at 9:00 AM and closes at 7:30 PM.

  • Meet the Artist Nov. 3rd at 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Pickup:

  • November 4th between 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM - Pick up paintings (Uncollected works left after 5:00 PM at owner’s risk. Contact the show chair Josée Duffhues for related costs and storage charges.

Remember to select a number of items from the dropdown menu on the following page before proceeding to payment. If you do not do so, you will be charged but the system will not know to create an empty slot to upload to. Please read the information provided on the submission pages carefully to avoid errors.

You cannot edit or add to your number of entries once you have started your submission.
