Artist Statement:

Artist’s Statement for Brenda K Brown

Every day I experience something in nature that invokes a response: a need to create and express an instance in time. For me, it’s not always about the big picture, like the beautiful sunrise. I study what is it that I am connected to: is it that golden peach light in the sky, that is also touching the edge of the rocks and extends to my arms? The way a misty light hovers over a patch of land, or shredded bark on a sea-tossed log washed ashore? I love the challenge to show this texture and mood in my work.

Metalworking extends this mixing of textures and shapes. Copper, silver and brass on the same piece! Aligning pearls, leather, and crystals to mingle on one’s wrist…that’s the statement I’m going for. I’m just thankful to experience nature and creation; to derive art from it all is a treasured gift.
