Biography
A full-time professional painter, Janice works mainly in water-based media, exploring nature with a meditative aesthetic. Her loose technique aims to evoke an emotional reaction to the imagery that she paints particularly 'en plein air'. She has a Zen vibe to her beautiful simple but complex imagery.
Evans began formal studies at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, School of Art and Design in 1970. She continued fine arts studies during her travels as a military spouse, while also completing a BSc.
Evans has shown her work at the Ladysmith Gallery,
Old School House, Qualicum, Vancouver Island Convention Centre, The Gallery George, Vancouver, Stola Contemporary Art Gallery, Chicago, Museo Nacional de la Acuarela, Mexico City, The Papermill Gallery and John B. Aird Online Gallery, Toronto.
Janice is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), the International Watercolour Society (IWS), and the National Watercolour. Society (NWS) and exhibits regularly with the Federation of Canadian Artists Vancouver Gallery, Nanaimo and Arrowsmith Chapters, and other venues on Vancouver Island.
She welcomes visitors to see her work at her home studio gallery by quick message or call. Janice opens her studio/gallery each year for the Hammond Bay Studio Tour on the last weekend in May. Evans is a strong supporter of community arts, is involved with Plein Air Nanaimo, and was Coordinator of the Artist-of-the-Month program for many years.
Artist Statement:
"From head to eyes, heart to hand, paint to paper"
Plein air painting becomes an ethereal and philosophical experience where my work is sometimes delicate with a Zen vibe, sometimes bold in statement, or humorous.
