Artist Bio:

Karen lives with her husband on acreage on the outskirts of the Alberni Valley. her studio overlooks extensive flower and vegetable gardens and is appropriately named Country Gardens Studio. She has painted many landscapes and house portraits but the bulk of her work is inspired by the abundant flowers in her garden. She has been featured in many solo and group shows and her work has received awards in juried art shows and FCA juried shows.

For sixteen years she taught childrens' drawing and painting classes at the Rollin Art Center. Her guidebook for teaching drawing, "Artworx for Kids" was published in 2015.

Her latest series of mandalas are in her words, "visual poems." Inspired by travel, events and her natural surroundings, they are a collection of images that flow within the perimeters of the design. She paints mainly in watercolour but does enjoy working with graphite and oils as well.

In 2015 she received her associate signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists. As well, she is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and has been accepted into international SCA shows. She has been a member of the Nanaimo Chapter of the FCa since 1998 and was a founding member of the Arrowsmith Chapter of the FCA.
