Preferred Medium:
pencils, oils
Artist Bio:
📷Lorna Beecroft has loved to create in various ways. She loves the act of creating and says it seems like magic to have a vision and then see it come to life as if of its own accord.
Lorna has a deep love of animals, especially horses and cats, so naturally, they occur frequently in her artwork. Realism appeals to her logical and orderly side, so most of her work is in that style. The challenge of accurately portraying her subject is something she never tires of. Lorna spends hours and hours practicing and seeking out new methods, techniques, and materials to improve her work.
Lorna does not work quickly and prefers the luxury of infinite time with the subject, to be able to delve into the shapes, textures, values, and shadows. She chooses her subjects in poses and context that she finds interesting because of the feeling the subject elicits. For her, the piece decides what medium and material(s) to use, from pastels and pencils to acrylics or oils.
Lorna is largely self-taught and began her serious artistic journey after retiring from work. This has allowed her more time to totally immerse herself in learning, improving her technique, and developing more fully her artist’s eye. She has taken workshops when professionals she admires are teaching and has spent much time researching online, particularly finding videos a great resource. She has also built her art library and spends many hours reading and drawing or painting. She can happily immerse herself for hours at a time continuing her self-directed education.
