Artist Bio:
Mary Mitchell is a contemporary painter based on Gabriola Island, on the unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation off the coast of British Columbia. Drawing inspiration from the forests, trails, and shifting light of Coastal BC, she creates paintings that blend layered acrylics to evoke depth, mood, and quiet illumination.
Mary’s artistic focus is to evoke positive memories and emotional resonance through her work. Her paintings aim to bring viewers a sense of calm, and reflection by capturing the atmospheres and feelings tied to experiences in nature.
Artist Statement:
I paint the outdoors—the light, colour, and energy of Coastal BC. Each painting becomes a window to nature, meant to stir memory and remind us of the beauty that exists beyond our walls.
