Artist Bio:
Sally McKee is a Canadian acrylic artist whose work explores emotion, connection, movement, and the beauty found in everyday life. Working intuitively with colour, texture, and expressive forms, she creates contemporary abstract paintings that invite the viewer to find their own meaning within each piece.
Sally’s artistic journey is rooted in a love of experimentation and a desire to continually grow as an artist. Her work reflects both the emotional experiences of life and her fascination with colour, atmosphere, and the human experience. She lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where she continues to paint and develop her artistic practice.
Artist Statement:
My paintings are an exploration of emotion, connection, and the ever-changing experience of being human. I work primarily in acrylic, using colour, movement, texture, and intuitive mark-making to create expressive abstract pieces.
I rarely begin with a completely defined outcome. Instead, I allow the painting to evolve, responding to the colours, shapes, and energy that emerge on the canvas. Layers are added, changed, and sometimes covered, creating depth and a sense of movement.
My work is influenced by the relationships, experiences, and moments that shape our lives. I am interested in the feelings that can be difficult to put into words—the sense of connection, loss, joy, transformation, and the possibility of beginning again.
I want my paintings to leave room for the viewer to bring their own experience to the work. If a painting creates an emotional response or invites someone to pause and see something of themselves in it, I feel it has accomplished what I hoped for.
