'NANAIMO FINE ART SHOW'

November 3 - 5, 2017

Sponsored by Nanaimo Chapter of FCA

The Nanaimo Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is pleased to present their 2nd annual Nanaimo Fine Art Show at the Vancouver Island Conference Center, for Federation members only.

The "Nanaimo Fine Art Show” will celebrate the vitality and high quality of visual art in our community. This juried show sets out to become a premier annual event and it will offer excellent exposure from all forms of accepted FCA media. The exhibition will be on display between November 3rd to 5th 2017, in the beautiful River Room in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. An opening gala and award ceremony where the cash prize awards will be presented will be held on Friday night November 3rd at 7pm. This event is by invitation only.

A First-place prize of $1000 will be awarded; a Second-place prize of $750 and a Third-place prize of $500 from the jurors' selections. The jurors will also select non-cash awards for Honorable Mentions. A People’s Choice Award will be awarded on show closing. This years jurors are Kathy Cameron (AFCA), Don Farrell (SFCA), and Clement Kwan (SFCA).

There will also be a separate Signature Member showcase for the jurors and qualified local Chapter Members.

A "Meet the artist Night" will be held on Saturday November 4th from 7-9pm with a silent auction.

Paintings gaining acceptance by jurors are to be dropped off November 3rd between 8 AM - 12 noon at the venue. The exhibition will accept entries from all Federation chapters on Vancouver Island and surrounding islands.

Entry Guidelines

To enter this exhibition, you must be an Active member in good standing with the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver and be in good standing with one of the following FCA Chapters: Nanaimo, Arrowsmith or Victoria. Refer to the renewal links at the end of this document to renew your membership. Artists who are successful at jury, but have not renewed their memberships, will be removed from the exhibition.

  • Once a piece has been accepted into the juried show, the piece cannot be sold and/or withdrawn before the show.

  • Entry sizes are restricted to 36 inches Wide, without a frame. Hight can be larger than 36 inches but please remember that paintings are being displayed on easels.

  • Please watch the tutorial video here if you need assistance with your digital upload. Chapter Show Submissions are subject to general Federation of Canadian Artists Submission Requirements, found in the policy manual.

After jurying, submissions will fall into one of three categories:

  1. Qualifying and count towards Signature Status points with the FCA

  2. Non-Qualifying - artworks that are non-qualifying have not scored high enough to be eligible for points towards your Signature Status but may still display as part of this Chapter exhibition. This category for display is available for Nanaimo FCA Members only.

  3. Non-qualifying artworks that are declined for display.

Artists are encouraged to submit their most recent artwork. You may submit artworks that have been previously submitted or accepted to the Federation Gallery in Vancouver, or any FCA Chapter show except Nanaimo. Chapter Show Submissions are subject to general Federation of Canadian Artists Submission Requirements, found in the FCA policy manual. All works submitted must be for sale. If a work is purchased by someone during the show that is unable to pickup after the show, pieces will be taken down and given to buyers during the show. Artists entering the show agree that photographs of their paintings can be used for future advertisement of this show by the Nanaimo Chapter on website, print material and social media.

Entry Fees (up to 3 entries)

Entry Rates:

  • $25.00 CAN for the first entry.

  • $10.00 CAN per entry, up to two entries thereafter.

Hanging Fees for accepted pieces:

  • $10.00 CAN per accepted entry to be paid after pieces have been accepted into the show. Paid by credit card through a Square invoice sent to you from the Nanaimo FCA Treasurer to the email used during registration. Expect invoices mid-late September. ​

Sale Commission:

  • NFCA takes a 20% Commission on sales during the show.

Submissions:

  • May 15th - Submission Opens

  • September 1st - Submission closes at midnight.

Delivery:

  • Friday, November 3rd, 8:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. (Noon) - Drop off at River Room in Vancouver Island Conference Center (All deliveries must be hand delivered; shipped deliveries are not permissible).

Events and Show Times:

  • Friday, November 3rd Gala reception by invitation only 7:00 p.m. – 9:00p.m. with sneak preview for prior buyers and sponsors starting at 6:00p.m.

  • Saturday, November 4th Show hours are 9:00a.m. – 9:00p.m.

  • Silent auction starts Nov. 4th at 9:00a.m. – 7:30pm.

  • Meet the Artist Nov. 4th at 7:00pm-9:00pm.

  • Sunday, November 5th Show hours are 9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.

Pickup:

  • November 5th between 4:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. - Pick up paintings (Uncollected works left after 5:00 p.m. at owner’s risk. Contact the show chair Claudia Lohmann for related costs and storage charges.
