TRUDY BROADLEY
I was fortunate to grow up in Hartley, Kent, a small village in the English countryside where adventures were endless! I spent a lot of time at the stables with the horses and much time sketching them, too.
Art was my favourite subject in school and I never had to worry about my marks. However, math was another story!
The first recognition I received for artwork was The Brooke Bond Student Art Award, where students from many schools sent in their work. My painting was of horses! That was back in 1965.
Art School was my wish but when I finished school, I was sent off to train for a 'sensible career'. So the painting was put aside for 40 years. But I visited Art Shows and Galleries whenever I got the chance, often carrying around a pencil and sketchbook in my bag.
I finally picked up a paint brush when I retired in 2004. I started with watercolour, then worked in acrylics and now I am enjoying oil painting. I have always had an interest in Art & Culture, so took courses through Emily Carr University, which were wonderful and got me started on a new path.
I have enjoyed painting paleolithic art, using authentic pigments and it is interesting to choose the correct medium for the results I want.
Paintings have sold and moved to France, England, Spain, USA, Mexico and other parts of Canada, which makes me very happy.
I now live in Lantzville, BC with my husband, Bruce, and our dog, Charlie. We lived on Gabriola Island for 25 years.
There is inspiration all around us in this wonderful part of the world and I am extremely grateful to be living here.
