Meet the Award Winning Artists of Last Year's Nanaimo Fine Art Show

Last year at the 2022 Nanaimo Fine Art Show Active member of the NFCA Chapter Sarah Boileau received 2nd place for her painting "Golden Morning" Sarah also received People's Choice for her painting "Sunbeams at Flo Beach"

"This painting was inspired by a backcountry hike on the Rockwall trail in Kootenay National Park. We had a rest day at the Floe Lake campground on our last full day on the trail, I got up early and watched the sunrise turn the predawn blues into gold, it was spectacular."

Artist's Biography

Born in 1984, Sarah grew up in the small town of Fort St James, BC. Very creative from an early age, she was content as long as she was drawing or making something. After high school Sarah moved to Alberta and spent 12 years in the highway construction industry working as a surveyor. While the hours were long during the work season she had winters off to practice her painting skills. Sarah started painting with oils in 2004, largely self-taught, she has also learned much over the years from other artists. Her style is realistic and she likes to paint landscapes that have strong sculptural shapes with an emphasis on light. In 2016 she decided to move back to BC to pursue a career in art. Sarah currently lives and paints full time in Nanaimo, BC and is an active member of the FCA.

People's Choice Award

"Sunbeams at Flo Beach" was inspired by a late morning exploration of Florencia Beach in Ucluelet. The way that the sun was shining through the tops of the trees making sunbeams, and the shimmer of light on the wet beach captivated my imagination and I knew it needed to be a painting!"
